ZP's "Project 75" Empty ZP's "Project 75"

Post  sidewinder420 Wed 13 Jan 2010, 1:58 am

Well, finally got all of my materials in and have started my "Project 75" using a Shatner Life Cast.

Here I filled in all the undercuts around the life cast. This life cast broke in to so I glued it back together and filled the chips in with clay.

Next I will be making my silicon mold followed by a two piece plaster bandage shell, then will come the clay pour then setting it on an armature for sculpting..

I'll update this progress pics as I work, but as of tonight, here is where I'm at with it.

That lifecast is insane, man! How much will you be charging for masks?

I would advise making a few more layers of silicone before you do the plaster bandages, it looks a bit thin. Other than that, very nice start! I am gonna be doing something similar here in the next month or so. But i have a question for you, after you've done the claypour, Have you considered submerging your armature into the quasi-molten clay, rather than sticking the clay on to the face after the fact? I was just thinking about it, and it seemed like it would be a bit more secure on the armature, and there would be less air pockets between them... Question

I dunno. just a thought. Anyways, I am eager to see an update. Very Happy

Definitely. I just finished the 4th coat out of 6 last night. I just figured I would post the rest of the silicone coats after I finished them all, but I am taking pics one coat at a time.. I'm logging EVERYTHING I do with the process to keep records of how this was made because I have a feeling I'm going to need it in the future, if you know where I'm getting at.

The submerging the armature is something I actually had not considered. My crock pot is not that big, but I have considered brushing the armature with clay before I place the clay-pour onto it.

Thank for the heads up and thank you for the feedback!

Thank you!!

I've got some work to do to it with the overall sculpt and enlarging the master, but I'm sure this will be worth the fun I'm having with it.

Good job! I used the same lifecast for the base of a couple new masks I have coming out.

Thanks for the support, gents. Here's a little update as to where I am at the moment.

Well, at this point I am just doing a build up to work on the overall shape of the sculpt.

Now, the pics here are not the overal shape of it yet, it's just the build up to get there. Right now I have the E.T. Look going on........ rabbit
